Our Philosophy
The BC Renewal Party believes in Pragmatic Progressivism with an Economically Libertarian Flair.
We are progressive in our goals, but libertarian in our methods. We pursue genuinely progressive outcomes — economic security for families, stability for young parents, generational hope, and real opportunity for every British Columbian — but we achieve them through freedom, simplicity, and common sense.
We reject the NDP’s instinct for bigger government, more bureaucracy, and top-down control. We also reject any approach that offers only cuts without any real compassion or vision.
Instead, we trust British Columbians. We believe people make better decisions for their own families than distant politicians in Victoria. That is why we focus on maximum individual freedom, minimal red tape, strong property rights, and direct support that puts money and choice back in the hands of families and communities.
We choose results over rhetoric, empathy over ideology, and long-term prosperity over short-term political games. Our approach is practical, evidence-based, and focused on what actually works for the people of British Columbia.
Our Core Values
-
Innovation & Growth We champion bold ideas like Nuclear energy, BCFundMe, Hemp, responsible resource use, manufacturing, and tech-driven prosperity to build a strong, resilient economy that creates opportunity for everyone.
-
Economic Security for All Every British Columbian deserves dignity and stability. That is why we support practical tools like the Universal BC Dividend — direct, unconditional support that helps families without creating dependency.
-
Self-Reliance & Opportunity We empower entrepreneurs, tradespeople, and young people by removing unnecessary barriers and rewarding hard work, so every generation has a fair shot at success.
-
Freedom & Transparency We are committed to cutting red tape, protecting civil liberties, and ensuring open, honest government that serves the people rather than itself.
-
Unity & Shared Prosperity We believe British Columbians are stronger together. We reject divisive identity politics and work to create shared opportunity and prosperity for every resident — Indigenous and non-Indigenous, urban and rural, new and long-time British Columbians alike.
-
Competence & Accountability Government must deliver real results with honesty and transparency. We demand competent leadership, fiscal responsibility, and clear accountability so taxpayers know exactly where their money is going and what outcomes are being achieved. Government works for the people — not the other way around.
-
Generational Renewal We are building a British Columbia where young families can afford to stay, have children, and raise them with hope — not forced to leave for a better life elsewhere.
What We Believe
We believe British Columbia is not a poor province — we are a poorly governed one.
We have abundant natural resources, world-class people, and incredible quality of life. What we lack is leadership that puts families first and delivers practical solutions. That is why the BC Renewal Party exists: to renew hope and restore trust in our province. We offer a positive, unifying vision that transcends the old left-right battles — one that focuses on building a better future for every British Columbian, especially our young people and families.
Renewing Hope. Restoring Trust.
💸
UNIVERSAL BC DIVIDEND
What We Propose: A guaranteed $500/month tax-free dividend for every BC resident — no applications, no strings attached.
Why It Matters:
-
Directly combats poverty and inflation by giving people spending power.
-
Boosts small businesses and local economies.
-
Reduces dependence on bureaucratic welfare programs.
-
Funded through a mix of responsible budget reform, resource revenues, and modest tax shifts — not a wealth tax.
🏥
HEALTHCARE THAT ACTUALLY HELPS
What We Propose: Rapid training programs for nurses, PSWs, and GPs.
Fast-tracked licensing for foreign-trained professionals. A specialized provincial Cancer Response Fund for families hit hardest. More mobile clinics in rural communities.
Why It Matters:
-
Waitlists are unacceptable — and preventable.
-
We’ve lived through medical loss and understand the stakes.
-
We can fund more care by cutting administrative waste and middle management.
🎓
EDUCATION & ENTREPRENEURSHIP
What We Propose: Financial literacy, trades, and entrepreneurship added to the high school curriculum.
Early Trades and Apprenticeship Pathways: Starting in Grade 11 (age 16), integrate optional paid apprenticeships. Students earn credits while gaining hands-on experience, allowing graduation with skills and income by 18–19.
Startup grants for under-30s building new businesses or tech solutions. Faster certification pathways for skilled workers (welders, mechanics, etc.).
Why It Matters:
-
The economy has changed. Our education system hasn’t.
-
Not everyone needs a degree — but everyone deserves opportunity.
-
Let’s build a generation of makers, builders, and owners.
🧒
Family Support Policy: Empowering Parents with Real Choice
What We Propose: A monthly Childcare Benefit paid directly to parents in addition to the BC Dividend -- no waitlists, no bureaucracy, and no government deciding where your child goes. Parents can use it for daycare, nannies, family care, co-ops, or staying home.
Why It Matters:
-
We believe parents know what is best for their children. BC Renewal will stop wasting billions on centralized programs and instead put real money directly into the hands of the people who love their kids most.
-
Protects the thousands of private and independent family daycare centers that we rely on.
-
Gives parents and caregivers more flexibility
🏠
LAND VALUE TAX REFORM
What We Propose: Implement a 0.8% tax on unimproved land value to replace inefficient property taxes, the Property Transfer Tax, and the Speculation & Vacancy Tax—generating $12 billion annually while exempting buildings and improvements to end speculation and boost housing supply.
Why It Matters:
-
Captures community-created wealth from public investments, making taxation fairer and providing relief to 70-90% of households.
-
Rewards productivity by incentivizing development, increasing construction by up to 32% and reducing vacant properties.
-
Addresses BC's affordability crisis by promoting efficient land use, lowering rents, and fostering economic growth for families.
🧩
Disability Supplement – Fair Funding for Families with Autism and/or Significant Disabilities
What We Propose: 6,000 per year for every child diagnosed with autism or significant disability. Paid directly to parents with no repeated assessments, severity tiers, or bureaucratic hurdles.
Why It Matters:
🔥
Wildfire Protection and Resilience
What We Propose: The BC Renewal Party will treat wildfire protection as a core infrastructure priority. We will invest $1 billion annually in modern equipment, technology, and prevention infrastructure to keep British Columbians safe and our communities resilient.
Why It Matters:
-
We will fund the development and acquisition of new large air tankers and enhanced water bombers. A Next Generation Aerial Firefighting Fleet with modern equivalents to the historic Martin Mars flying bombers that once served BC so effectively.
⚛️
CLEAN, RELIABLE NUCLEAR ENERGY
What We Propose: Accelerate the adoption of small modular reactors (SMRs) to replace fossil fuels and back up intermittent renewables.
Why It Matters:
-
Nuclear is zero-emission, scalable, and safe.
-
Helps BC meet its climate goals while keeping energy affordable.
-
Supports energy independence and creates skilled jobs in engineering and trades.
🏡
HOUSING REFORM FOR A LIVABLE BC
What We Propose: End exclusionary zoning — legalize townhomes, duplexes, and rentals across urban cores. A provincial land use strategy that focuses on building supply, not bureaucracy. Immediate audit of unused public land and office space for conversion into housing. Renter support via dividends instead of clumsy subsidies.
Why It Matters:
-
Young people can’t afford to live here. That’s not freedom.
-
The dream of home ownership should be possible again — not a fantasy.
-
We must build for people, not hedge funds.
🌲
RESPONSIBLE RESOURCE WEALTH
What We Propose: Create a BC Sovereign Wealth Fund using royalties from forestry, mining, LNG, and water rights. Transparent accounting for all Crown revenues. Tie extraction to local job creation and environmental standards.
Why It Matters:
-
BC’s resources belong to its people — not just big corporations.
-
Norway built a $1.6T fund off oil. We can do the same with our resources — sustainably.
-
Future generations deserve to benefit from today’s economic activity.
🛡️
FREEDOM, PRIVACY, AND ACCOUNTABILITY
What We Propose: Digital privacy protections and algorithm transparency for government apps and education platforms. End overreach in surveillance and "emergency" powers. Annual public audits of MLAs’ expenses and public contracts.
Why It Matters:
-
A freer society starts with honest government.
-
Privacy is not a luxury — it's a right.
-
We deserve institutions we can actually trust.
🌿
BC HEMP REVIVAL
What We Propose: Revitalize BC's industrial hemp industry by easing farming regulations, providing incentives for cultivation and processing, and integrating hemp into sustainable resource strategies—creating jobs in rural areas and exporting eco-friendly products like textiles, biofuels, and building materials.
Why It Matters:
-
Boosts economic growth in underserved communities, generating thousands of green jobs and diversifying agriculture.
-
Promotes environmental sustainability by replacing high-impact materials with renewable hemp, reducing carbon footprints and supporting biodiversity.
-
Enhances prosperity for young families through affordable, innovative industries that keep talent in BC.
💸
Cost of Living and Taxes: Putting Money Back in Your Pocket
What We Propose:
BC families are struggling with high taxes, inflation, and stagnant wages. Government spending is out of control, with deficits projected at $11.6 billion.
BC Renewal will make life more affordable:
-
Cut wasteful bureaucracy and redirect savings to the Universal BC Dividend.
-
Reduce the Provincial Sales Tax by 2 percentage points (from 7% to 5%).
-
Gradually lower the corporate income tax rate (from 12% to 10%) to make BC more competitive and attract investment.
Why It Matters:
-
Jumpstarts the economy and puts money back in people's pockets
-
Increases competiveness and allows families and businesses to think about moving here to a lower tax jurisdiction rather than looking elsewhere
🤝
BCFUND ME: CIVIC CROWDFUNDING PLATFORM
What We Propose: Launch BCFundMe, a province-backed platform for nonprofits, municipalities, individuals, and organizations to crowdsource community projects—like fixing potholes or building parks—with government matching donations and issuing tax credits to contributors for transparent, collaborative funding.
Why It Matters:
-
Empowers citizens by directing funds to local needs, rebuilding trust in how tax dollars are spent and fostering civic pride.
-
Enhances government transparency through real-time tracking of projects and outcomes, reducing disconnection from public spending.
